With more than 25 years of experience in music education, Ms. May has dedicated her career to nurturing young people through the transformative power of music. Her professional experience spans piano instruction, early childhood education, special education, and teaching in international school settings. Ms. May’s musical journey began during her primary school years, when she played the flute in her school band. She participated in and won numerous championships, experiences that sparked her enduring passion for music. She later began studying piano and completed ABRSM Grade 8 in both Practical and Theory during her secondary school years. Committed to lifelong learning, she continued her professional music education and, in 2003, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, majoring in Piano with minors in Violin and Guitar, from the University of Newcastle, Australia. She also obtained a Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Teaching and Training, specializing in Learning Disorders, Behaviour Management and Child Psychology from the University of Greenwich in 2015. Building on her educational background, Ms. May has also pursued inclusive communication practices. She studied Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (BIM), the Malaysian Sign Language, developing the ability to communicate with members of the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community. This experience deepened her understanding of accessibility and empathy, while strengthening her ability to build meaningful connections through both language and music. Her commitment to music extends beyond the classroom and into performance. She has performed as a violinist at private events, worked in the entertainment industry, and played and performed as a member of a Malay Gamelan orchestra. These experiences have broadened her musical perspective across different instruments, performance traditions, and cultural expressions. Ms. May later worked in a local government school, supporting students with learning disabilities and further developing her inclusive teaching practice. In recent years, she has extended her work into the area of wellness by exploring the therapeutic potential of music. Through collaborations with spiritual practitioners at self-healing events, she has incorporated music into holistic wellness practices. She believes strongly in music’s ability to support healing and help individuals process grief, anxiety, and other emotional challenges through expression, connection, and creativity.
