Chapter 9

Earth

The layered structure of the Earth and why we protect its resources — with an interactive exercise.

The Earth is made of layers. From the outside in: the crust (thin rocky surface we live on), the mantle, and the core at the centre.

The Earth provides the land, water and air that living things need. Its resources should be used wisely and protected from pollution.

Remember

  • Earth's layers: crust → mantle → core.
  • We live on the thin outer crust.
