Reproduction makes new living things so that a species continues.
In sexual reproduction (humans and many animals), a male sperm joins a female egg in fertilisation, forming a new cell that grows into a baby. Some simple organisms use asexual reproduction — for example bacteria split in two, and yeast reproduces by budding.
Remember
- Fertilisation = sperm + egg join together.
- Sexual reproduction needs two parents; asexual reproduction needs one.
