Chapter 11

Isometric Transformations

Translations, reflections and rotations — transformations that keep a shape's size and shape — with an interactive exercise.

An isometric transformation moves a shape without changing its size or shape.

The three types are translation (a slide), reflection (a flip across a mirror line) and rotation (a turn about a point). The image is always congruent to the original — same size and shape.

Remember

  • Translation = slide · Reflection = flip · Rotation = turn.
  • Isometric = size and shape stay the same.
