Chapter 4

Human Health

Infectious and non-infectious diseases, how they spread, and how to prevent them — with an interactive exercise.

Health is keeping the body free from disease. Diseases can be infectious (caused by microorganisms and able to spread) or non-infectious (like diabetes).

Infectious diseases spread through air, water, food, contact or animals. We prevent them with good hygiene, clean food and water, and vaccination, which builds immunity.

Remember

  • Infectious diseases spread; non-infectious ones do not.
  • Vaccination builds immunity against disease.
