Why conserve wildlife?
Wildlife is important for keeping biodiversity and the balance of the ecosystem. Sadly, many species such as the Malayan tiger and the orangutan are now threatened by illegal hunting and the loss of habitat through deforestation.
Ways of conservation and preservation
- Setting up national parks and wildlife sanctuaries such as Taman Negara as protected habitat areas.
- Enforcing laws that ban the illegal hunting and trade of wildlife.
- Running captive breeding programmes to increase the number of endangered species.
- Holding public awareness campaigns so people value and protect animals.

Our role
Every individual can help by not buying products made from endangered animals, not hunting illegally, and supporting conservation efforts. Conservation means managing wildlife resources wisely so they last for future generations, while preservation means protecting them from destruction. Besides that, we can join activities such as clean-ups of natural habitats, spread information through social media, and report any illegal hunting to the authorities. Schools also play a part by holding environmental programmes and visits to national parks that plant a love of wildlife in students from a young age. With cooperation between the government, non-governmental bodies and the public, Malaysia's unique wildlife such as the Malayan tiger, elephant and turtle can be kept safe for future generations.
