Thermochemistry studies heat changes in reactions.
An exothermic reaction releases heat, so the surroundings get warmer (e.g. burning fuel). An endothermic reaction absorbs heat, so the surroundings get cooler.

- Exothermic → releases heat (temperature rises).
- Endothermic → absorbs heat (temperature falls).
