Malaysian money
In Malaysia, we use ringgit (RM) and sen. Money comes in two kinds: coins and notes. We should look at money carefully to see its value.
Key idea
Coins are round and made of metal: 5 sen, 10 sen, 20 sen, 50 sen.
Notes are made of paper: RM1, RM5, RM10, RM50.
100 sen = RM1.
We use money to buy things at the shop. Bigger notes, like RM50, are worth more than small coins, like 10 sen.
Adding coins
Worked example
You have a 50 sen coin and another 50 sen coin. How much in all?
50 sen + 50 sen = 100 sen = RM1.
You have a RM5 note and a RM5 note. How much in all?
RM5 + RM5 = RM10.

- Coins are metal; notes are paper.
- RM stands for ringgit.
- 100 sen make RM1.
