We can count and write whole numbers up to 100. Each number is made of tens and ones.
Place value
In the number 47, the 4 is in the tens place (it means 40) and the 7 is in the ones place (it means 7). So 47 = 40 + 7.
Comparing numbers
To compare, look at the tens first. 45 is more than 38 because 4 tens is more than 3 tens. We use > (more than), < (less than) and = (equal).
