Chapter 7

Absorption

Materials that soak up water (absorbent) and materials that do not (non-absorbent) — with an interactive exercise.

Absorption means soaking up water. Some materials soak up water and some do not.

Materials that soak up water are absorbent — like cloth, paper and a sponge. Materials that do not soak up water are non-absorbent — like plastic, glass and metal.

Remember

  • Absorbent: cloth, paper, sponge — they soak up water.
  • Non-absorbent: plastic, glass, metal — water stays on top.
