Chapter 9

Basic of Building

Basic 3D shapes used to build — cube, cuboid, cylinder, cone, pyramid and sphere — and which stack or roll, with an interactive exercise.

We can build things using basic 3D shapes: the cube, cuboid, cylinder, cone, pyramid and sphere.

Shapes with flat faces, like the cube and cuboid, stack well and are stable. A sphere is round and rolls, so it is hard to stack.

Remember

  • Flat faces (cube, cuboid) stack steadily.
  • A sphere rolls, so it does not stack well.
