Building with Shape Blocks
We can build models using blocks of different shapes. Blocks come in shapes like cubes, cuboids, cylinders and cones. Some blocks have flat sides and some are round. The shape of a block changes how well it can be built.
Key idea
Blocks with flat sides, like a cube and a cuboid, stack well. Round blocks, like a ball, roll away easily.
Building Strong and Tall
- A wide, flat base makes a tower stand steady.
- Put the biggest blocks at the bottom so the tower does not fall.
- Flat-sided blocks are best for building walls.
- Round shapes like a ball or a cylinder can roll, so they are harder to stack.
Example
Stack cube blocks and they stay still. Try to stack round balls and they roll and fall down.
Remember
- Flat sides stack well.
- Round shapes roll.
- A wide base is steady.
