Parts of a Plant
A plant has different parts. Each part has its own special job. The main parts are the roots, stem, leaves and flower.
Key idea
Roots take in water from the soil. The stem holds up the plant. Leaves make food using sunlight. Flowers are pretty and can grow into fruits.
What Each Part Does
- Roots hold the plant firmly in the soil and drink in water.
- Stem holds the plant up and carries water to the leaves.
- Leaves are often green and make food for the plant.
- Flower is colourful and can grow into a fruit.
Example
A sunflower has roots in the soil, a tall stem, green leaves, and one big yellow flower. Its roots stay under the ground while the stem, leaves and flower grow up in the air.
Remember
- Roots drink water.
- Leaves make food.
- Flowers can become fruits.
