Chapter 1

Science Process Skills

We use science skills to learn about the world around us!

What are science process skills?

Science process skills help us learn about the world. We use them every day at home and at school.

Key idea

We use our senses to observe. We look, listen, smell, taste and touch to find out about things.

Some skills we use

  • Observe: look and notice carefully.
  • Classify: put things into groups.
  • Measure: find out how big, long or heavy.
  • Compare: see how things are same or different.
  • Predict: guess what may happen next.

Example

We can group toys by colour. Red toys go in one box. Blue toys go in another box. This is classifying!

Why they help

These skills make us good little scientists. They help us ask questions and find answers.
