Chapter 1

Scientific Skills

Learning by investigating — using the five senses to observe, and the basic science process skills — with an interactive exercise.

In Science we learn by investigating the world around us. We use our five senses to observe: seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and touching.

Science process skills

Some important skills are observing (using our senses), comparing (finding how things are the same or different), measuring, and grouping things that are alike.

Stay safe

  • Follow the teacher's instructions in the science room.
  • Never taste or touch things unless the teacher says it is safe.
