Chapter 1

Whole Numbers up to 1000

Reading and writing whole numbers up to 1000 using hundreds, tens and ones, and comparing three-digit numbers — with an interactive exercise.

Now we count and write whole numbers up to 1000, using hundreds, tens and ones.

Place value

In 356: the 3 means 300 (hundreds), the 5 means 50 (tens) and the 6 means 6 (ones). So 356 = 300 + 50 + 6.

Remember

  • Three digits: hundreds, tens, ones — from left to right.
  • Compare hundreds first, then tens, then ones.
