What is a mixture?
A mixture is made when we put two or more things together. Sand and water is a mixture. A fruit salad is a mixture of many fruits. We often stir to mix things well.

Dissolve or not
Some things dissolve in water and seem to disappear, like sugar and salt. Other things do not dissolve, like sand and stones. Oil and water do not mix well; the oil floats on top. Sometimes we can take a mixture apart again. We can use a sieve to hold back stones and let the water pass through.
Example
Stir sugar into a cup of water. The sugar dissolves and the water tastes sweet.
