Chapter 9

Data Handling

Reading bar charts and pictographs where each picture stands for more than one — with an interactive exercise.

We read and draw bar charts.

The tallest bar shows the largest amount. In a pictograph, one picture can stand for more than 1 — if each picture = 2 and there are 4 pictures, that is 4 × 2 = 8 items.

Remember

  • Taller bar = larger amount.
  • Multiply by what each picture stands for.
