Sharing money equally
When we share money into equal groups, or find the price of one item, we divide. Division splits a total into equal parts.
Key idea
Each share = total ÷ number of groups. Price of one = total ÷ number of items.
Worked example
Worked example
RM8.40 is shared equally among 4 children. How much does each get?
RM8.40 ÷ 4 = RM2.10 (840 sen ÷ 4 = 210 sen).
Answer: RM2.10.
Check by multiplying
To check, multiply back: RM2.10 × 4 = RM8.40. Correct!
Remember
- Each share = total ÷ groups.
- Change RM to sen if it helps.
- Check by multiplying back.
