Chapter 4

Division of Money

Share money into equal parts and find the price of one item using division.

Sharing money equally

When we share money into equal groups, or find the price of one item, we divide. Division splits a total into equal parts.

Key idea

Each share = total ÷ number of groups. Price of one = total ÷ number of items.

Worked example

Worked example

RM8.40 is shared equally among 4 children. How much does each get?
RM8.40 ÷ 4 = RM2.10 (840 sen ÷ 4 = 210 sen).
Answer: RM2.10.

Check by multiplying

To check, multiply back: RM2.10 × 4 = RM8.40. Correct!

Remember

  • Each share = total ÷ groups.
  • Change RM to sen if it helps.
  • Check by multiplying back.
