Chapter 7

Space

Describing 3D shapes by their faces, edges and vertices — cubes, cuboids, cylinders and spheres — with an interactive exercise.

We describe 3D shapes by their faces, edges and vertices (corners).

A cube and a cuboid each have 6 faces, 12 edges and 8 vertices. A cylinder has 2 flat circular faces; a sphere is round all over.

Remember

  • Cube & cuboid: 6 faces, 12 edges, 8 vertices.
  • Face = flat surface · Edge = line · Vertex = corner.
