The Solar System
The Solar System is made up of the Sun and the eight planets that move around it. The Sun is a star and gives us light and heat. Each planet moves around the Sun in its own path, called an orbit. The planets do not give out their own light; we can see them because they reflect the light of the Sun.
The Eight Planets in Order
From the Sun outwards, the eight planets are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Mercury is the closest to the Sun and Neptune is the farthest. Earth is the third planet and it is the planet we live on. Jupiter is the biggest planet.
