Chapter 4

Plants

How plants grow from seeds through germination, and the plant life cycle — with an interactive exercise.

Most plants grow from a seed. When a seed starts to grow it is called germination.

A seed needs water, air and warmth to germinate: seed → seedling → young plant → adult plant. The adult plant makes flowers and new seeds, and the cycle begins again.

Remember

  • Germination = a seed starting to grow.
  • Seeds need water, air and warmth to germinate.
