Money in ringgit and sen
Malaysian money uses ringgit (RM) and sen. 100 sen = RM1. We write money with two digits after the dot, like RM5.50.
Key idea
Add and subtract money by lining up the dots. Multiply for equal prices; divide to share money equally.

Worked example
You buy a drink for RM4.60 and pay with RM10.
Change = RM10 − RM4.60 = RM5.40.
Check: RM5.40 + RM4.60 = RM10. Correct!
Multiplying and dividing
3 pens at RM2.50 each cost 3 × RM2.50 = RM7.50. Sharing RM24 among 6 friends gives RM24 ÷ 6 = RM4 each.
Sometimes we change between ringgit and sen. Since 100 sen = RM1, we know RM2.50 is the same as 250 sen, and 375 sen is the same as RM3.75. Writing money neatly with two decimal places helps us keep the ringgit and the sen apart.
