Why safety matters
A workshop is a room where we make things using tools and machines. Some tools are sharp and some are heavy, so we must always be careful. Following safety rules keeps you, your friends and your teacher safe from harm.

Good habits in the workshop
- Wear PPE such as safety goggles, an apron and gloves when needed.
- Tie back long hair and roll up loose sleeves.
- Keep your table tidy and put tools back after use.
- Walk, never run, and never play with the tools.
- Ask your teacher before using any machine.
- Tell your teacher at once if something breaks or if you get hurt.
Example
Before sawing a piece of wood, Aina puts on her safety goggles, clamps the wood firmly and keeps her fingers away from the blade. This stops splinters from hurting her eyes and keeps her hands safe.
When everyone follows the rules, the workshop is a safe and happy place to learn and create.
