Why We Need Packaging
Packaging is the wrapper, box or bottle that holds a product. Good packaging does more than just cover a product. It has four important jobs: to protect the product, to inform the buyer, to attract attention, and to be made from suitable material.

The Jobs of Packaging
Packaging protects food or goods from dirt, water and knocks. It informs the buyer by showing the name, weight, price and date. It attracts buyers with nice colours, pictures and shape. It must also use a suitable material, such as a glass bottle for juice, a paper box for crayons, or a plastic bag for bread.
Example
An egg carton is made from moulded paper with soft cups. The cups protect the eggs so they do not crack, and the label informs us how many eggs are inside.
