What Was the Ice Age?
The Ice Age was a very long period, thousands of years ago, when the Earth became much colder than today. Huge sheets of ice covered large parts of the land. This happened during prehistory, the time before people wrote things down.
A Frozen World
Because so much water was frozen into ice, the sea level was lower. Land that is under the sea today was dry back then. This dry land joined many places together, including the area around present-day Malaysia, called the Sunda Shelf.

Life in the Ice Age
Early humans and animals lived during the Ice Age. Because Malaysia's land was connected to nearby islands, people and animals could walk across from place to place.
