Where and When?
Every event in history happened at a certain place and at a certain time. In history we call the place the space (ruang) and the moment the time (masa). Together they tell us exactly where and when something happened.
Space
Space is the location of an event. We use maps to show space. For example, Malaya's independence was declared in Kuala Lumpur, and that place is the space.
Time
Time tells us when an event happened, such as a day, month, year or century. A century is 100 years. We arrange events in the order of time on a timeline, from the past to the present. Knowing both the space and the time keeps our story of the past clear and correct.
Key idea
Space = the place (use a map). Time = when it happened (use a timeline).
Remember
- Malaya became independent on 31 August 1957 (time) in Kuala Lumpur (space).
- A timeline arranges events from earliest to latest.
- 100 years = 1 century.
