Who was Parameswara?

Parameswara was a brave prince who later founded Melaka. He came from Palembang, a city on the island of Sumatra. Long ago, Palembang was part of the old kingdom of Srivijaya.

At first, Parameswara followed the Hindu religion. He was a strong and clever leader. When trouble came to Palembang, he decided to leave and look for a new home.

Parameswara wanted to build his own kingdom. With his followers, he sailed across the sea to a place called Temasik, the old name for Singapore. This was only the start of a long journey.
