A hero from Melaka
Hang Tuah is the most famous warrior in the stories of the Melaka Sultanate. He lived during the time of Sultan Mansur Shah. As a boy he grew up in a village near Melaka and learned silat, the Malay martial art.
Five brave friends
Hang Tuah had four loyal friends: Hang Jebat, Hang Kasturi, Hang Lekir and Hang Lekiu. Together they trained hard and became skilled fighters. Because he was brave and loyal, the Sultan made Hang Tuah the Laksamana (admiral) of Melaka.
Hang Tuah carried a famous keris called Taming Sari. His life story is told in the old book Hikayat Hang Tuah.
