Chapter 2

Human

How we breathe — the respiratory system, oxygen and carbon dioxide — with an interactive exercise.

We breathe to take in the oxygen our body needs. This is done by the respiratory system.

Air enters through the nose, goes down the windpipe and into the lungs. The body takes oxygen from the air and breathes out carbon dioxide. We breathe faster when we exercise.

Remember

  • Air path: nose → windpipe → lungs.
  • We take in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide.
