Design an animal that can survive
An imaginary animal is one you invent using your creativity. But a good design is not just for fun — you use real science! You think about how the animal will find food, stay safe and live in its home (its habitat).
Key idea
An animal's body parts should match where it lives. A body part that helps an animal survive in its habitat is called an adaptation.
Think like a scientist
Copy clever ideas from real animals. If your animal lives in a cold place, give it thick fur. If it lives in water, give it fins or webbed feet.
- Lives in the desert → keeps water in its body, has thin fur.
- Lives in trees → strong claws to climb and hold on.
- Has enemies → sharp spikes or fast legs to stay safe.
You can also give your animal a clever name and draw a picture of it in its home. The most important rule is that every body part should have a reason. When you can explain why each part helps your animal live, you are truly thinking like a real scientist.
