Many religions, one nation
Malaysia is a multiracial country where people follow many different religions. Islam is the official religion of the country, written in our Federal Constitution. At the same time, the Constitution gives everyone the freedom to follow their own religion peacefully.
Religions in Malaysia
Some of the main religions practised here are:
- Islam — followed by many Malays and others.
- Buddhism — followed by many Chinese Malaysians.
- Hinduism — followed by many Indian Malaysians.
- Christianity — followed by people of several races.
Each religion has its own festivals, such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Wesak Day, Deepavali and Christmas. Because we respect one another's beliefs, we live together in peace and unity.
