Islam is the religion of the Federation of Malaysia. This is written in the Federal Constitution, in Article 3. It means Islam has a special place as the official religion of our country.
Freedom to worship
Even though Islam is the religion of the Federation, other religions can be practised freely and peacefully. Malaysians follow many faiths, such as Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and others. The Constitution protects this freedom of religion, so people of every race and belief live together in harmony.

The Agong and the Rulers
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers are the guardians of Islam. Islam being the religion of the Federation is also part of the Rukun Negara, which begins with belief in God (Kepercayaan kepada Tuhan).
