Malaysia is not the only monarchy
A monarchy is a country that has a King, Queen, Sultan or Emperor as its head. Malaysia is a monarchy, and so are several of our neighbours in Asia. Long histories of royal families make these countries proud of their traditions, just like us.
Some royal countries in Asia
- Thailand — led by a King.
- Japan — led by an Emperor, the oldest royal line in the world.
- Brunei Darussalam — led by a Sultan, our close neighbour on Borneo.
- Cambodia — led by a King.
- Bhutan — led by a King in the Himalaya mountains.
Like Malaysia, many of these are constitutional monarchies, where the royal head is a symbol of the nation and a government runs the country.
