A grand and solemn event
After a new Yang di-Pertuan Agong is chosen, a special installation ceremony (Istiadat Pertabalan) is held. It takes place at the Istana Negara (the National Palace) and is full of tradition and respect.
What happens at the ceremony
- The Agong takes the oath of office, promising to serve the country faithfully.

- He wears the royal regalia and takes his place on the throne.

The installation ceremony officially makes a Ruler the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. It shows respect for the nation's traditions and the sovereignty (daulat) of the country.
Why it matters
The ceremony reminds all Malaysians to be loyal to the King and country. Other Malay Rulers, leaders, and invited guests attend to honour the new Agong.
