The meaning of each part
Every part of the Jalur Gemilang has a meaning. The 14 red and white stripes show that the 13 states and the federal government all have equal status.
The corner symbols
- Blue rectangle (canton) in the top corner — the unity of the people.
- Crescent — Islam, the official religion of Malaysia.
- 14-pointed star — the unity of the 14 members (13 states and the federal government).
- Yellow colour — the colour of the Malay Rulers.
Key idea
The stripes = the states; blue = unity; crescent = Islam; yellow = the Rulers.
