Heroes to remember
Local heroes (pahlawan tempatan) were brave men and women who fought to protect their people and land. We honour them today for their courage and sacrifice.
- Dato Maharajalela — led the Perak resistance against Resident Birch.
- Dato Bahaman and Mat Kilau — famous warriors of Pahang.
- Tok Janggut — leader in Kelantan who stood against British taxes.
- Rentap — fought the Brookes in Sarawak; his cry was 'Sarawak for the people of Sarawak'.
- Mat Salleh — resisted the British North Borneo Company in Sabah.
- Rosli Dhoby — young Sarawak hero of 1949.
Key idea
Local heroes showed great bravery, loyalty and love for their homeland. They are role models for all Malaysians.
