What is the Jata Negara?
The Jata Negara is Malaysia's national emblem, also called the coat of arms. It stands for our whole country. You can see it on coins, official letters, passports and government buildings.
How it began
When the Federation of Malaya became independent on 31 August 1957, the new nation needed its own special crest. After Malaysia was formed on 16 September 1963, the emblem was changed to include Sabah and Sarawak. The design brings together symbols from all the states, so it tells the story of our nation in one picture.
