We work with coordinates in the first quadrant.
A point is (x, y) — across then up. The point (0, 0) is the origin. A point on the x-axis has y = 0. The distance between (2, 0) and (8, 0) along the axis is 8 − 2 = 6 units.
Remember
- (0, 0) is the origin.
- On the x-axis, y = 0; on the y-axis, x = 0.
