Decimals show numbers between whole numbers using a decimal point.
The first digit after the point is tenths, the next is hundredths. In 3.47, the 4 means 4 tenths (0.4) and the 7 means 7 hundredths (0.07). Line up the decimal points to add: 2.5 + 1.5 = 4.
Remember
- After the point: tenths, then hundredths.
- Line up the decimal points before adding or subtracting.
