Chapter 12

Probability

How likely events are — certain, likely, unlikely or impossible — and simple probability — with an interactive exercise.

Probability is how likely something is to happen.

We describe events as certain, likely, unlikely or impossible. A fair coin has 2 equal sides, so the chance of heads is 1 out of 2 = 0.5.

Remember

  • Certain = sure to happen · Impossible = cannot happen.
  • Probability = favourable outcomes ÷ total outcomes.
