We simplify ratios and share amounts in a given ratio.
A ratio like 6 : 9 can be simplified to 2 : 3. To share 12 sweets in the ratio 1 : 2, there are 1 + 2 = 3 equal parts, so one part = 4: the shares are 4 and 8.
Remember
- Add the ratio parts, then find the value of one part.
- 3 : 6 = 1 : 2 (divide both by the same number).
