Freedom for every faith
Islam is the official religion, but the Federal Constitution also protects other religions. This is one reason Malaysia stays peaceful as a multi-religious country.
What the Constitution allows
- Article 3 — other religions may be practised in peace and harmony.
- Article 11 — everyone has the right to profess and practise his own religion.
- Each religious group may manage its own affairs.
- Each group may build its own places of worship.
Key idea
Freedom of religion means no one can be forced to follow a religion, and everyone may worship in their own way.
Remember
- Article 11 protects freedom of religion.
- No one may be forced to follow a religion.
- Respecting each faith keeps unity and harmony.
