Chapter 4

The Diversity of Races in Malaysia

Malaysia is home to many races living side by side. Let's explore our colourful diversity!

A country of many races

Malaysia is a multiracial country. The three largest groups are the Malays, the Chinese and the Indians. In Sabah and Sarawak, there are many more groups, such as the Kadazan-Dusun, Iban, Bidayuh and Melanau. The Orang Asli are the earliest peoples of Peninsular Malaysia.

Living together in harmony

Each race has its own language, festivals, food and customs. Malays celebrate Hari Raya, Chinese celebrate Chinese New Year, Indians celebrate Deepavali, and many communities join in open houses. This makes Malaysia rich and colourful.

Key idea

Many races, one nation. Malaysia's diversity is a special strength when everyone respects one another and lives in unity.
