What is the United Nations?
The United Nations (UN) is the biggest group of countries in the world. It was formed in 1945, after the Second World War, to help nations keep peace and solve problems together. Almost every country on Earth is a member, and the UN's main office is in New York.

Malaya joined the United Nations in 1957, the year it became independent. Malaysia has taken part in many UN activities. Malaysian soldiers have joined peacekeeping missions to help keep peace in troubled places around the world.
