Conjunctions

  • Coordinating: and, but, or, so.
  • Subordinating: because, although, when, if.

Connectors

  • Link ideas between sentences: however, therefore, for example, in addition.

Key idea

Conjunctions join words/clauses within a sentence; connectors (however, therefore) link ideas between sentences.

Remember

A connector like 'however' usually starts a new sentence followed by a comma.
