Light helps us see
We need light to see things around us. In the day, the Sun gives us light. At night or in a dark room, we cannot see well. When there is no light, it is dark.

Where light comes from
Some things make their own light. The Sun is a natural light in the sky. A candle and a firefly also give their own light. Some lights are made by people, such as a torch, a lamp and a light bulb. These lights help us see at night and inside dark places. When light is blocked by something, it makes a dark shape called a shadow.

You turn on a lamp to read at night. The lamp gives light so you can see the words.
