Chapter 13

Excretion in Humans

How the kidneys remove waste from the blood to form urine — with an interactive exercise.

Excretion is the removal of the waste products of metabolism.

The kidneys filter the blood and remove urea (a waste from breaking down proteins), producing urine. The lungs excrete carbon dioxide.

Remember

  • Kidneys remove urea, forming urine.
  • Excretion removes metabolic waste (not undigested food).
