Where Malaysia stands
Malaysia does not generate electricity from any nuclear power station. Its power comes mainly from natural gas, coal and hydroelectric dams. However, Malaysia does use nuclear technology in research, medicine, agriculture and industry, all under strict safety control.

Nuclear technology already used here
- Medicine — hospitals use radiotherapy and radioactive tracers to diagnose and treat disease.
- Agriculture — radiation helps produce improved rice varieties and control pests.
- Industry — radiation gauges inspect welds, pipes and material thickness.
- Research — Malaysia operates a small research reactor (the PUSPATI TRIGA reactor) for study and to make medical isotopes, not to supply electricity.

The future
